Williamson on Knowledge and Evidence

چکیده
Timothy Williamson’s project in Knowledge and Its Limits (Williamson, 2000) includes proposals for substantial revisions in the received approach to epistemology. One received view is that knowledge is conceptualized in terms of a conjunction of factors that are individually necessary and jointly sufficient for knowing. A central aim of epistemology is to state such necessary and sufficient conditions. Against this received view, Williamson argues that

Williamson on Evidence and Knowledge
Timothy Williamson’s Knowledge and its Limits is a treasure trove of philosophical riches. By reversing the usual explanatory order and putting “knowledge first” in epistemology (p. v) Williamson reconceives the relationships between knowledge, belief, justification and evidence. While there is much to be said about Williamson’s ambitious project, I will focus on his imaginative account of evid...

متن کاملSimulation of Heat and Chemical Reactions on Peristaltic Flow of a Williamson Fluid in an Inclined Asymmetric Channel
This work concerns the peristaltic flow of a Williamson fluid model in an inclined asymmetric channel under combined effects of heat and mass transfer. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are simplified under the lubrication approach and then solved analytically and numerically. The analytical results are computed with the help of regular perturbation and the numerical re...
متن کاملIs Evidence Knowledge?
In chapter 9 of Knowledge and its Limits, Timothy Williamson argues for the thesis that the evidence that a subject has is constituted by propositions known by the subject (a thesis that he summarizes in the equation E=K). Moreover, Williamson also argues that whatever justifies a subject in believing a proposition is part of that subject’s evidence, and thus that only propositions that a subje...
